Also, Lord Murugan assumed the role of the Creator here, after improsining Lord Brahma for his ignorance of the meaning of the Pranava manthiram. Kachiappa Sivachariar wrote the sacred Kanda Puraanam at this temple. It's here that The Devas approach Lord Murugan to seek his help in destroying Surapadman.
